LGP: How did you start DJing?
Ribz: Music is my passion. I started my career when I was just a teenage. I used to perform at college functions. In due course of playing music, I got deeply involved in it. Now I am standing in front of you.
LGP: What is it about your music that the audience enjoys?
Ribz: I have my signature style of music. I love to play my own remixes which makes people go to the dance floor.
LGP: When did you first have the chance to rock the people?
Ribz: It was 4 years back when I performed at Delhi University. I got huge appreciation from everyone.
LGP: What’s your style of music?
Ribz: I play my own remixes in the clubs and shows. I enjoy hip-hop, house and commercial style of music. But, ultimately it’s the people choice of music that I like to play. I play music for the people so I need to check what they like to listen and dance to.
LGP: What are your upcoming projects?
Ribz: I would be performing in Dubai and Singapore next.
LGP: Don’t you think these remixes and fusion of western music is causing Indian music to lose its originality?
Ribz: Yes, it is losing its classical chord. But it’s the demand of the people who are getting westernized.

He is BLACKJACK! Jack of all trades and master of even more. He has dun’ it all. Specializing in music in genres like Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Retro, Classic Retro, Golden Oldies, Reggae to fun dancey tunes for the younger lot. He is a down to bone, a Classic Rocker who has performed as vocalist with the erstwhile band KATALOG now known as Alter Egoz. Singing is his passion.
BLACKJACK has more cards up his sleeve. Besides the occasional backpacking trips with his motorcyclist gang, he is also a poet with the pseudonym AKELA and has published a book called TANAAV. He has three books of poetry online HAR_TAAL, EPITAPH and ANGAAR. Versatility is his forte and he can whip up his own style of Dal Fry and Kheema as well as dab in some oil painting.
BLACKJACK! runs a creative operations print and production house in Hyderabad and has produced creatives for the clubbing fraternity. He has been associated musically with well-known brands like Smirnoff, Pepsi, Sand Piper, Kingfisher, SAB Miller, Shark Tooth.
BLACKJACK! has started a new initiative called Rock Ya Soul Productions to promote younger talent, bands and individuals. He has introduced successful bands like Vayu, Valentine Shipley and Alisha Batth to the Hyderabad music scene and the latter two to Hard Rock Café, Mumbai.
He currently resides in Hyderabad with his family.

DJ Ivan is one of the popular Indian DJs from Bangalore. He started his career in DJ-ing 15 years ago at a nightclub called Time and Again, in Bangalore from 1992-1994. For the first time in 1998 he become an official DJ representing Channel V India, and was also nominated as the best Indian Club DJ for the 1998 Channel V awards.
He is the first and only Indian DJ to play alongside DJs Paulette and Spencer at the Ministry Of Sound's first official tour of India in 2001, and also the first Indian DJ to host an international musical dance show on FM Radio during 2001-03. He also holds the credit for being the first Indian DJ performer at Copas at Four Point Sheraton Hotel in Dubai.
You can catch him on air on his own radio show on “Hotmix” on 101.3 Rainbow FM Bangalore. He is presently the official DJ of Smirnoff India while holding a residency at India’s new premier nightclub.
He has also shared the musical platform with some of world’s top DJ’s such as Paul Van Dyk, Danny Rampling, Sasha, Smoking Joe, Tom Stephen, Lee Buridge, and Steve Lawler.

From as early as civilization came into being, along with the most basic needs of life, came the need to celebrate or PART’E! After a successful hunt or winning a battle or just the birth of a child, not to mention the various national and religious festivals. All deserved a celebration! Looking back it amazes one to realize just how far we have come. From dancing to tribal drum beats around a bonfire to the most state of the art sound systems. Back then the drummers and now the DEEJAY. 
In the digital world we live in, music and dance follow the same principle or so to speak. However, it’s the need to party that evolved the disc jockey into being. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that the DJ was noticed and appreciated for making large crowds shake a leg, hips, heads and everything else in between) which started from warehouses that transformed into the largest Nightclubs the world over. Today Disc jockeys are found across the globe catering to various audiences.
A deejay is a person who plays non-stop pre-recorded music for an intended audience. However, there are two variants - The Mobile DJ and The Club DJ. A Mobile deejay is a DJ on wheels, taking the experience to your doorstep. They are hired for weddings, birthdays, corporate parties, etc. Whereas the Club DJ is one who plays at a specified venue popularly known as a Disco.
A DJ is very sensitive to its audience response, so they are acquainted with a wide variety of styles and songs that appeal to different age group. They have a command on their own music genre and demographic of audience. The motto of DJs is to keep the crowd dancing to its beats.
The enriching culture of DJs has no textbook or manual to be referred. It is being carried on orally, by DJs who learned the art from their associates. DJs have developed have an innovative musical technology and are now playing into the evolution of electronic dance music. Staying current with the musical trends and responding to the audience is vital for a DJs success. |
